Doodles free the mind

I have been doing more drawing lately. I always carry a sketch book with me but sometimes I just take a piece of what ever is handy and do a quick sketch a napkin, the back of a place mat and today the other side of something that printed on my computer. I guess you might call them doodles. It is my way of brain storming, unlocking that inner creative me, it just helps me think more creatively. I know it's just a thinking process I can play with it. I don't need detail, just freedom to explore possibilities.

I am writing down my accomplishment for 2009: my small victories and I am rejoicing in them. I hope you are celebrating also. The pounds lost, the closet cleaned, the child off to college all of your wonderful accomplishment for 2009: celebrate them now. I keep a journal and tomorrow I will write all the things that a follow through, refocus on what I missed and try to find the energy for the New Year.

About This Painting: Poppies of color painted in happy colors on 140 lb watercolor paper.

A wet on wet watercolor tecnique was uesd here. The most basic watercolor technique is the flat wash. It is produced by first wetting the area of paper to be covered by the wash, then mixing sufficient pigment to easily fill the entire area. The pigment is applied to a sloping surface in slightly overlapping horizontal bands from the top down This worked well for the poppy painting.
