Sunflower Demo
I started this painting on 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper. I sketched in the general shapes of the sunflowers and leaves that I wanted to paint.
I put in a light colored wash of gray for the background. I wanted the sunflowers to be the point of interest so I wanted to keep the background natural.
I started with center of the sunflower. I put in a yellow green and while it was still wet I added yellow burnt sienna to it.
While the center of the sunflower was drying I painted the local color of the leaves and let them dry.
I added more color to the sunflower petals and began adding colors to the leaves of the sunflower. I kept glazing until I had the color dark enough.
The finished painting. Sunflower and Leaf is 9x12 painted on 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper.
