Stay on Top of it All in the Art World

Stay on Top

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." - Steve Jobs (1955-2011), Founder of Apple Computer and Pixar Studios

Like the little bird I painted I am just trying to stay on top of everything. I could make me crazy, if I wasn't a bit touched anyway.

PINTEREST IS PERFECT FOR ARTISTS!
Here are 5 Creative Ways To Share Your Work:
1. Use as a digital portfolio of your work. Compiling from various sites on the web would be even better, as you are creating connections to your various work and licensed products across the WWW. If you are visiting a gallery or client, the ease of editing and adapting your portfolio online means you don’t have to go through all the updating directly on your ipad or tablet!
2. Use as a reference pinboard. Gather ideas for your creative projects. Whether you are a graphic designer, illustrator, interior designer or painter, using this as a vision board/reference board for future artwork ideas or paintings is perfect! No need to print out pictures or rip out magazines when its digital and therefore portable! Set it up to show on your tablet or ipad as you work!
3. As a progression board. Share the progress and development of your work with your clients, friends or audience. Want to share the evolution of an artwork or the completion of a project you are working on for a client? This is great for instant and complete overview in a visual state. Followers are able to like, repin, comment and even share your pin across other social networks.
4. As a storyboard. Whether you are a book writer, animator or illustrator for this would be a great digital aid for the progress and adaption of your story project. Pin photos, notes and story progressions. With Pinterest, moving pictures around makes it a simple and easy to use tool for this.
5. To crowdsource ideas – If you are working with a team on a project or idea, this is great for sharing, collaboration and adaption of a project. Mulitiple contributors allow a team to share their content together on one board.

Sunflower Demo

I started this painting on 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper. I sketched in the general shapes of the sunflowers and leaves that I wanted to paint.

I put in a light colored wash of gray for the background. I wanted the sunflowers to be the point of interest so I wanted to keep the background natural.

I started with center of the sunflower. I put in a yellow green and while it was still wet I added yellow burnt sienna to it.

While the center of the sunflower was drying I painted the local color of the leaves and let them dry.

I added more color to the sunflower petals and began adding colors to the leaves of the sunflower. I kept glazing until I had the color dark enough.

The finished painting. Sunflower and Leaf is 9x12 painted on 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper.

Cleaning Watercolor Brushes

“Cleaning a watercolor brush is relatively easy, since the nature of the paintings for this technique does not require thinner products

1. Wash your brush in clean water take your finger tips to squeeze out any extra water and paint.

 2. Swish in mild soapy water and dry on a paper towel.

3. Dampen the brush with olive oil and reshape like new. Olive oil with help keep the brush shape and also keep moths from making a meal of the precious sables that you own.

About This Painting: I started this painting for my Mom for a Mothers Day gift because she likes Dragonflies. When I look at it today I thought yes that is Mom and me in the lower right. Then it hit me; I should paint a large Dragonfly and three small ones for all of us kids. So I did. I will post a picture of it tomorrow. Now this one is for sale. Mom gets the the other one which as I pat myself on the back turn out darn nice.
