About this painting: I painted this watercolor about a year ago and there were some areas that I didn't like so I reworked it. Yes, you can go back into a watercolor and rework areas either lighting or darkening, When rework your paintings they can become muddy and dull, so preserving the luminous qualities of transparent watercolour is the hardest part.You can dip the paintbrush in water and gently paint over areas that have bled into other areas. This can "soften" the bleeding.Taking a clean paper towel and drying up the extra moisture and paint will remove most of the color. Let it dray and you are ready to paint over it. About this painting: I created the interesting pumpkin skin texture by building layers of wet on wet paint with drying time in between each layer so I didn't get mud. When I added the final layer of wet on wet I also added a little table salt sprinkled on damp watercolor paint this creates a delicate flower-like spot. Each crystal of salt chases away the pigment to make a lighter area beneath it. You can use this for texture in many different kinds of watercolor painting. About this painting: I did a quick sketch of where I want the branch and the web then I put down a watercolor fluid resist for the web. You can use masking tape,rubber cement,crayons, and ink as other ways to keep the white of the paper. As soon as the masking fluid was dry I added colors and let them bleed together to create a little mystery in the painting.
